KEY FACTORS in both performance and aging
This topic can be narrowed down to 6:
- Inflammation/oxidative stress (which I refer to as “rusting”)
- Hormonal imbalance – can be thyroid, adrenal, sex hormones, or all of these
- Stress hormones
- Blood sugar and insulin regulation
- Environmental burden
- Individuality
All of these are modifiable to some extent – by diet, sleep, exercise, and supplementation. Each of these six is worthy of an explanation, and they are all interconnected. Addressing all is ideal but try to think in terms of the “total body load,” which is the sum total of factors on the body that burden it in some way.
Envision your body as a rain barrel. What fills the barrel are the 6 factors above, which may continue to increase in number if nothing is done to decrease them. Over time, your barrel gets full. So full that it either spills over or springs leaks everywhere. This is when disease occurs, or when your level of energy is so low, you notice “something is wrong.”
The goal is to recognize and rectify these imbalances, understand how and why they occur, and make the necessary changes to change the level in your rain barrel.
